Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. The people who aren't familiar with this term frequently think that there is a separate island in the west of Montreal however, the West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island did not last long. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. At the beginning of her life, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." Once I was bigger than my male counterpart, I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school which encouraged her to go in that direction. She was recommended by a teacher to get a role for school's annual production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel's been involved in more than 60 shows, big and small. The most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
